Winter




Winter

Darkness lengthens
thoughts align
winter arrives
darkness persists
thoughts tangled
body shivers
winter invades
darkness still
earth trembles
spring flutters.


Rain splatters
rain splashes
rain hammers
rivulets shear down
a continuous race
to the bottom
one drop erased
by the next
wind howls
trees blow
behind my window

I watch.

MS Writers Group (previously Greystones Scribblers) were established by East-Wicklow branch of MS Ireland in 2012 and were the first and currently only Multiple Sclerosis affected writers’ group in Ireland. First Flight is the group’s inaugural publication of poetry and short stories with  financial assistance from Wicklow County Arts Office. The result is an inspirational book of well-honed stories that amuse, entertain and sometimes pull at the heart strings. Profits from the sale of First Flight will be donated to MS Ireland National Care Centre. For World MS Day by Julia Hart 12.4.24   MY MS DIAGNOSIS Navigating MS Together  I had been diagnosed with MS by Prof Michael Hutchinson in 1999. Things had been going wrong with my body for a good ten years, without anyone using the term Multiple Sclerosis. I had seen a neurologist in St James Hospital, I had been to the London Clinic while over to visit my mother. Not one person used the term MS. To me, that is. Years passed, with spells on steroids, spells with no symptoms, and then a period came when I could hardly lift either leg to put on knickers, socks or trousers or shoes. Plainly I had to have these difficulties investigated.  The doctor I had been seeing intermittently in Dublin retired, but before he did so he referred me to Prof. Hutchinson. A phone call secured me an appointment with him and somehow I managed to drive from Avoca to the private wing of SVUH, accompanied by my non-driving husband. We both sat in Prof Hutchinson's room.   GREYSTONES SCRIBBLERS   are   delighted to announce that, f ollowing a nationwide call for artists living with Multiple Sclerosis, their application has been chosen as part of 12 artworks to be displayed at the  Trinity Biomedical Sciences Institute   The group have created a video presentation with prose and poems written and spoken (where possible) by members of the writers group.  The Scribblers are made up of Mark Mitchell, Julia Hart, Mark Talbot, Patrice Brady Carton and Louise Wardell. The group is facilitated by Carol Boland. The 12 artworks will be on display from Thursday 26 May to Wednesday 1 June 2022 . 'The Art of MS – Symptoms Under the Spotlight’ is an art exhibition created by MS Ireland in partnership with Novartis Ireland
