Winter

Winter
 Louise Wardell

Darkness lengthens
thoughts align
winter arrives
darkness persists
thoughts tangled
body shivers
winter invades
darkness still
earth trembles
spring flutters.

Rain splatters
rain splashes
rain hammers
rivulets shear down
a continuous race
to the bottom
one drop erased
by the next
wind howls
trees blow
behind my window

I watch.
